Dear Subscribers,
We have the pleasure to feature another one of our
advisers: Farzad Sharifian from Edith Cowan University.
He sends all our subscribers a note that starts as
follows:
"It is our turn now to contribute! LINGUIST has been a
gem for the linguistic community and I can't envisage the
community progressing without it. I have never known of a
counterpart for LINGUIST in any other academic community.
I personally, as well as my department, have relied so much
on LINGUIST over the years for many purposes, including
posting conference information, queries, job advertisements,
books and journal announcements, new course information,
and call for papers/chapters. Most recently we have set up
an abstract submission page on the LINGUIST, which is a
remarkable resource for conference organization.
Over the past several years I have had the privilege to
be an advisor of the LINGUIST and have closely been
observing the dedication of the LINGUIST team to this great
cause, which has significantly improved the life of the
community of linguists and applied linguists around the world.
I congratulate Helen, Anthony, and the crew for the fantastic
job that they have done over the years in providing a unique
and precious platform for the community. We can return a very
small part of their generous contribution by donating to the
LINGUIST, any amount that we can. It is now our turn to show
our appreciation for what we have gained from this invaluable
resource. Your donation would be highly appreciated and will
ensure that LINGUIST continues to flourish.
I feel honoured to be invited to serve as one of the
spokespersons for the Advisors in 2011."

The LINGUIST List is under the umbrella of Eastern Michigan University and as
such can receive donations through the EMU Foundation, which is a registered
501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal Tax number is 38-6005986. These
donations can be offset against your federal and sometimes your state tax return
(U.S. tax payers only). For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact
your financial advisor.
Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that they will match
any gift you make to a non-profit organization. Normally this entails your
contacting your human resources department and sending us a form that the
EMU Foundation fills in and returns to your employer. This is generally a simple
administrative procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if your company
operates such a program.
Thank you very much for your support of LINGUIST!
