Description:
The MA in TEFL Program at the American University in Cairo anticipates one
opening for a specialist to teach and do research in the areas of Corpus
Linguistics and Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL). Secondary
focus would also be desirable in any of the following areas: sociolinguistics
with a cross-linguistic emphasis, second language acquisition, intercultural
communication, and in any of the traditional ESL skill areas. Experience or
interest in community-based learning and/or online learning would also be an
asset. The position primarily involves teaching in the MA in TEFL program,
and maintaining an active research agenda.
Requirements:
A Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics is required. Successful candidates should
have an ongoing program of research and a demonstrated commitment to
excellence in teaching. It would be strongly desirable for the candidate to
have experience teaching in an MA-level TESOL program. Responsibilities
include graduate and possibly some undergraduate teaching, supervising
master's theses, maintaining an active program of research and publications,
and service to the Department and the University.
Priority will be given to applications received by January 15, 2012. Position is
open until filled. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by videoconference
beginning in February 2012.
Additional Information:
The position is at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor and is tenure
track with initial three-year (renewable) appointment subject to mutual
agreement. It will begin in September 2012. Renewal of an appointment
depends upon institutional needs and the appointee's performance.
