Description:
The MA in TEFL Program at the American University in Cairo anticipates one
opening for a specialist in the area of teaching methodology in TESOL, with
expertise in one or more of the traditional ESL skill areas. Secondary focus
would also be desirable in any of the following areas: English for specific
purposes, teaching English to young learners, business English, second
language acquisition, curriculum design, or intercultural communication.
Experience or interest in community-based learning and/or online learning
would also be an asset. The position primarily involves teaching in the
MATEFL program, and maintaining an active research agenda.
Requirements:
A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Applied Linguistics, TESOL or a related field. Successful
candidates should have an ongoing program of research and a demonstrated
commitment to excellence in teaching. The candidate should have extensive
experience teaching EFL/ESL. Experience in teaching in an MA-level TESOL
program is also desired. Responsibilities include graduate and possibly some
undergraduate teaching; maintenance of an ongoing research agenda;
supervising teaching practica and master's theses; and service to the
Department and the University.
Priority will be given to applications received by January 15, 2012. Position is
open until filled. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by videoconference
beginning in February 2012.
Additional Information:
Both professor of practice and assistant professor rank are hired to initial two-
or three-year (renewable) appointment subject to mutual agreement.
Employment will begin September 2012. Renewal of an appointment depends
upon institutional needs and the appointee's performance.
