Description:
Appen Butler Hill is a world leader in its focused area of professional services
for the speech and language technology industry. We have an immediate
opening for a Linguistic Project Manager in our Custom Consulting Division.
Applications are invited from linguists with at least one to two years of project
management experience. The successful candidate will join a dynamic
division supporting a growing list of clients.
This is a full-time position, ideally based in the greater Seattle area, and is a
work-from-home opportunity with responsibility for managing virtual teams of
consultants. Candidates must have an excellent understanding of linguistics
concepts and issues and be well-versed in linguistic terminology.
We offer a comprehensive salary and benefits package.
Responsibilities:
- Independently manage full scope of one or more small linguistics projects;
assist with managing larger projects
- Onboard, train and manage virtual teams of consultants to create, test or
annotate linguistic project data in one or more languages
- Manage projects to achieve targets in relation to quality, timelines, scope
and cost and budgeted/contracted outcomes
- Provide linguistic expertise to Linguistic Custom Consulting team and
clients
- May also assist in bid development, business development activities and
process improvement
Qualifications and Experience:
- One to two years experience working on natural language technology
projects
- One to two years of project management experience
- Strong computer skills with experience in a Windows OS and the MS Office
suite of products
- English proficiency and native or near-native proficiency in at least one
other language
- Minimum of BA in Linguistics from an accredited university
- Experience with social media platforms
- Additional translator credentials, software testing experience, and NLP
tools experience are a plus
Abilities:
- Outstanding client service skills
- Ability to create productive, cooperative relationships
- Strong communications skills, both written and oral
- Flexible, independent and motivated self-starter
- Ability to work independently in a virtual team environment
