The Institute of English and American Studies at the University of Kassel
offers BA, MA and teacher-training degree courses to over 1000 students.
We are currently looking to reinforce our language teaching staff with
someone who will focus primarily on teaching pre-sessional and introductory
language courses (level of language competence upper-intermediate, B2/C1)
with a current teaching load of 7 hours per week. You will be involved with all
aspects of setting and marking written and oral exams at this level and will be
expected to contribute overall towards the improvement of our English
language programme.
You will also be expected to take on responsibility for informing prospective
students of our language requirements, helping them to assess realistically
whether they meet these, setting up a cooperation with international language
testing organisations and developing and coordinating practice materials.
A further focus will be on counselling students who show weaknesses in
specific language areas in their early semesters and on developing and
organising a suitable remedial programme.
Candidates must be native speakers of English with an MA, PGCE or
equivalent in a relevant field. Teaching experience is essential; EAP
experience in a university context is highly desirable. A good knowledge of
spoken and written German is particularly important for this post.
