Advanced Research & Development (ARD) Lead - Mumbai or Bangalore
Position Overview
H5AP is seeking a senior lead candidate to initiate its R&D effort in India.
The successful candidate will be fully capable of functioning as a productive
contributor to H5's global research and development effort, focused on
developing innovative approaches to dealing with large-scale unstructured
natural language and corporate data. Following a successful initial
deployment, the candidate will work with US counterparts to hire and
supervise a team of junior contributors.

Responsibilities
The ARD Lead for India is responsible for the following core areas:
- Taking on research and development tasks as defined by global R&D
leadership
- Producing working software implementation in short-order
- Taking idea through design, development, testing, and implementation with
minimal direction
- Investigating feasibility of proposed implementations that may or may not
lead to actual implementations
- Tackling complex data manipulation and analytic tasks for H5 client
engagements requiring rapid determination on course of action and execution
often within a matter of hours or days
- Coordinating effectively across the internal Professional Services and
Product Development Groups
Once effectively working with the global ARD team and substantially steeped
in H5 technologies and processes, the ARD Lead for India will become
responsible for the following additional areas (ideally this would be 6 months
into the role):
- Identifying additional R&D roles to staff in India
- Driving the recruiting efforts for new local R&D roles
- Onboarding and training new hires
- Project managing workflow for new India R&D team
- Serving as technical resource for junior members, stepping in to solve
problems or implement solutions when other cannot
Requirements
The following are key technical requirements for this role:
- Information Retrieval (IR), Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language
Processing (NLP), Very Large Database (VLDB) or other expertise with
unstructured data
- Comfortable with both UNIX and Windows environments
- SQL database experience
- Strong programming skills (Java, C/C++, or C#)
- Scripting language experience (Perl, Python, Ruby)
In addition to the key technical requirements, we are looking for candidates
with a strong professional and leadership profile including:
- Strong problem-solving and independent decision-making skills
- Self-motivated and focused with an overall "can-do" attitude
- Fast learner and open to learning new technologies
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Excellent communication with both local and international professionals
- Experience mentoring, training, and leading others
- At least 6 years of relevant experience with a strong technical and team
leadership focus

Master's degree in the following or related areas:
- Computational Linguistics / NLP
- Information Retrieval
- Machine Learning
- Computer Science
- Cognitive Science
- Mathematics
- Electrical Engineering
Location
- Role is based out of Mumbai or Bangalore, India
- Extended travel to San Francisco office will be involved
