Description:
The University of Arizona Department of English in the College of
Humanities invites applications for a tenured Associate Professor to
join us as a faculty member in the English, Language, and Linguistics
(EL/L) Program and as Associate Director of the Writing Program. We
encourage candidates with experience in Writing Program
Administration and a strong background in Second Language Writing
to apply. This colleague will be a member of our graduate faculty in
EL/L, teaching MA students in ESL (TESL, TEFL) and PhD students in
the internationally known graduate interdisciplinary program in SLAT
(Second Language Acquisition & Teaching), and he/she will play a
crucial role as a part of the collaborative leadership team in the Writing
Program. We are seeking a candidate with a proven track record of
effective administration, superior teaching, and well-established
research. This administrative position includes a 1/1 teaching load and
a stipend to cover summer duties and responsibilities.
Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD in Applied/Educational Linguistics, Second
Language Studies/Acquisition, Rhetoric & Composition, or a related
field, and experience in administering a college or university writing
program. Applicants also must have a record of productive scholarship,
a superior teaching record, and the ability to collaborate within and
across programs at the university-level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants with expertise in ESL/L2 Writing, and a background in
Rhetoric and Composition for both native and non-native speakers of
English are preferred. Other possible areas of expertise or experience
could include: Writing Program Assessment, teacher training, academic
placement and transfer; English for Academic/Specific Purposes
(EAP/ESP), intercultural rhetoric, Professional & Technical
Communication, Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC), and Writing in
the Disciplines (WID); ESL/L2 writing curriculum development,
assessment, and pedagogy, especially genre-based and literacy-based
approaches; multilingualism, Global Englishes and English as an Int'l
Language; multimodal and technology-mediated composition.
