Description:

The Faculty of Arts & Philosophy of Ghent University (Belgium) invites applications for a full-time position of professor in the rank of Lecturer (Tenure Track system) in the Department of Linguistics, starting on October 1, 2014. Responsibilities will include academic teaching, research and service in the field of Swedish Linguistics and Language Proficiency.

Candidate’s Profile: 
- On the day of application, candidates are required to hold a PhD with a doctoral thesis (or equivalent) in Swedish Linguistics
- Candidates are required to have at least two years of postdoctoral experience by October 1, 2014
- Candidates are required to have research experience in the field of Swedish Linguistics, as is evident from contributions to international conferences and publications in books and/or peer reviewed journals
- Candidates are required to possess an excellent oral and written proficiency in Swedish (near native)
- Candidates are required to possess the necessary didactic, organizational, and communicative skills for teaching Swedish Linguistics and Swedish Language Proficiency in an academic context
- An international ‘profile' gained, for instance, through participation in research programs at institutions other than one's own, will be considered an asset.

The candidates are required to submit: 
- An outline (max. 1500 words) explaining their views on research, teaching, and administrative duties in relation to this vacancy
- The required transcripts (copies of degrees). 

Selection procedure: 
1. Candidates will be short-listed on the basis of their curriculum vitae, bibliography, and the outline
2. Short-listed applicants will be invited for an interview and required to teach a short class, on the basis of which the final selection will be made. 

Candidates should meet the language proficiency requirements as stipulated in article 91novies of the decree concerning the restructuring of higher education in Flanders. The administrative and teaching language of Ghent University is Dutch, but candidates who do not speak the language can also apply. In accordance with the decree, candidates who have teaching duties should possess a proficiency of C1 (CEFR-level) in the language in which they teach. Candidates who are not expected to teach courses in Dutch should possess a proficiency in Dutch at CEFR-level B2; this proficiency must be demonstrated within 3 years of their first appointment or when tenure is granted.
