Description:

The Duke Kunshan University in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China invites applications for a full-time assistant, associate or full professor position of Writing and Communications Director beginning Fall 2014. Candidates should have a PhD in an appropriate area (Composition and Rhetoric, English, Communications, Applied Linguistics) and MA or certification in TESL/TESOL/ESL/Applied Linguistics. A strong record of scholarly and professional activities related to undergraduate and graduate teaching, as well as prior experience with testing and methodology of second language acquisition is required. The candidate should also have at least five years of teaching and administrative experience with undergraduate and graduate students. Prior experience with testing and methodology of second language acquisition is required. Initial appointments are multi-year contracts and are renewable based on academic rigor of research, teaching, curriculum development, professional development and service. Salary is competitive and based on experience.
 
Highlights of the Responsibilities:
- Oversight and direct participation in the development of a coherent and theoretically sound writing and communications program for undergraduate and graduate students in a global learning environment.
- Development and administration of a placement test during orientation and development of assessment tools, syllabi, and grading rubrics for the curriculum of the program.
- Coordination and communication with the Thompson Writing Program and the English for International Students Program at Duke University to ensure curricular articulation between DKU and these two programs. 
- Recruitment and supervision of part-time and full-time ESL instructors for the undergraduate and graduate tracks of the program, including orientation to the unique needs of DKU students, design of DKU programs, and performance expectations regarding their employment.
- Management and delivery of ESL classes.
- Teaching in the ESL program.
- Orientation of DKU academic faculty on the needs of ELLS in general and DKU students in particular. 
- Full and complete reporting of all issues related to the quality and implementation of the language program.
