Description:
The Professor hearing, language and brain will take a leadership role in
accelerating performance in discovery and the translation of this into
transformative learning and solutions to real world problems at the interface
between hearing, language and cognition. The newly created role is based at
the Australian Hearing Hub (AHH) at Macquarie University. The AHH
(hearinghub.edu.au) is a world class facility established to build a global
network of collaboration in hearing and speech sciences and services. The
co-location of leading researchers, clinicians, educators and technology
developers in a single, purpose-built precinct on the Macquarie University
campus has created a venue like no other for the advancement and translation
of knowledge in hearing and speech sciences and services.
Macquarie University's inaugural partners in the establishment of the AHH
include: Australian Hearing and the National Acoustics Laboratories, Cochlear
Limited, and the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children.
The Professor hearing, language and the brain complements existing expertise
at Macquarie University in cognitive, language, and hearing sciences, and
disciplines of Audiology, Speech Pathology, Cognitive and Language Sciences,
Psychology and Physics (nanofabrication).
The successful candidate will have:
- International standing in the field of neural bases of speech and language
perception and production, with an emphasis on the consequences of hearing
loss on language function in the brain
- A background in psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, neuroscience or other
related disciplines, including research focusing on the interaction between
auditory information and linguistic representations
- A record of leading a team to engage successfully in research and in
collaboration with industry and other partners
