Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Linguistics at time of appointment or notification of completion of
the doctoral degree byAugust 1, 2015
- Potential for excellence in teaching at the college level
- Evidence of research, scholarly, and creative activities commensurate with
professional level
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student
population

Desired/Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to engage students at the undergraduate and graduate level with
interests in TESOL, language and culture, and applied fields, in undergraduate
courses in syntax, semantics and pragmatics, and in graduate courses in
discourse and grammar, syntax, and field methods.
- Expertise/research interests in one or more of the following as it relates
to syntax: discourse, typology, semantics, pragmatics, historical linguistics,
fieldwork, corpus linguistics, psycholinguistics
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching linguistics at the university/college
level
- Potential for obtaining external funding
- Specialization should complement those of faculty in the CSULB Linguistics
Department

Duties
- Teach courses in undergraduate and graduate levels in linguistics, including
introductory courses and courses in the area of expertise, and department
needs
- Participate in curriculum development and assessment activities
- Engage in research leading to conference presentations, publications and
grant proposals
- Perform department, college, university, and community service

- A student success statement about your teaching or other experiences,
successes, and challenges in working with a diverse student population
(approximately one page)
- Letter of application addressing the minimum and desired/preferred
qualifications
- CV (including current email address)
- Three to five current letters of recommendation
- Copy of transcript from institution awarding highest degree
- Finalists will also be required to submit a signed SC-1 form, three to five
current letters of recommendation (if not already submitted), and an official
transcript
- Applicants are required to submit a portfolio with: 1) a description of
their teaching philosophy and methodologies (maximum of two pages); 2) up to
two relevant syllabi sample written by the candidate; 3) student evaluations,
and 4) two examples of scholarship.
