6th Biennial International Conference on the Linguistics of Contemporary English (BICLCE6)

The 6th Biennial International Conference on the Linguistics of Contemporary English (BICLCE) will take place in August 2015, and will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The aim of the BICLCE (previously ICLCE) conference is to encourage the cross-fertilization of ideas between different frameworks and research traditions, all of which may address any aspect of the linguistics of contemporary English. Traditionally, syntax (specifically constructions), sociolinguistics, and discourse analysis are three of the focus areas of the conference.

Call for Papers:

We invite abstracts dealing with any aspect of the structure of contemporary varieties of English in any way that aims to be explanatory. Work on any variety is welcome, as well as work exploring variation. We do not intend to accept abstracts that are purely historical, but we do encourage those that bring in diachrony in order to explain the structure of present-day English.

The deadline for abstract submission is Friday, 16 Jan 2015 at 5 pm (US Central Time). 

Previous ICLCE conferences were held in Edinburgh (2005), Toulouse (2007), London (2009), Osnabrück (2011), and Austin, TX (2013), along the same lines. As BICLCE moves to the Midwest, we hope to build on these successes.

We will accept abstracts for 20-minute paper presentations as well as for organized panels. An organized panel proposal—consisting of four related papers—consists of an abstract of each talk plus an explanation of how the panel is coherent. Panels may be on any of the topics emphasized by the conference generally, but also consist of a group of four talks that approach data in novel ways. If you are interested in submitting a proposal for a panel, contact the organizers in advance of the abstract deadline via biclce6 at english.wisc.edu.

In addition, we invite junior scholars (i.e., students) to submit abstracts for a special poster presentation session.
