The Department of Applied Linguistics at The Pennsylvania State University
(University Park) invites applications for an established scholar in applied
linguistics at the rank of full or associate professor to also serve as
Director of the Center for Language Acquisition. The start date for the
position is Fall 2016. A social orientation to applied linguistics research is
highly preferred. This may include sociocultural, socio-cognitive,
sociolinguistic, or a language socialization approach to the acquisition and
teaching of languages beyond the first, language use, multilingualism
(including multi-literacies), language assessment, and the use of technology
in language teaching and learning. Preference given to applicants whose
research (also) includes focus on languages other than English. Applicants
must have a strong scholarly record and demonstrated excellence in teaching.
The successful candidate should show evidence of successful grant-writing
activity as well as experience managing research and personnel budgets. Normal
teaching load is four courses a year, reduced to two as long as directorship
is held. Submit letter of interest, CV, three representative publications, and
the names and contact information of three references. Position will remain
