ACBLPE Annual Conference
University of Cape Verde, Praia, Cape Verde 23-26 June 2016
Call Deadline: Monday, 15 February 2016
The ACBLPE annual meeting will take place in the University of Cape Verde, Praia, Cape Verde, 23-26 June 2016. Abstracts in any area of language contact involving Spanish and/or Portuguese are invited. We especially welcome abstracts that focus on Cape Verdean language issues.
The deadline for abstract submission is 15 February 2016. Notification of the results of the abstract evaluation will be sent by 15 March 2016.

5. Status (faculty, student):

Organization of the Abstract:
Many abstracts are rejected because they omit crucial information rather than because of errors in what they include. A suggested outline for abstracts is as follows:
- Choose a title that clearly indicates the topic of the paper and is no more than one line long.
- In the abstract, state the topic clearly.
- Make reference to prior work on the topic.
- When essential to the clarity of the argumentation, present linguistic data (with glosses). Explain abbreviations at their first occurrence.
- If the paper presents the results of experiments, but collection of results is not yet complete, present the provisional results in detail. Also indicate the nature of the experimental design and the specific hypothesis tested.
- State the relevance of your hypothesis to past work. Describe the analysis in as much detail as possible. Avoid vague or unsubstantiated statements.
- State the contribution to linguistic research made by the analysis.
- Citation of the relevant literature is essential within the abstract. However, the inclusion of a list of references at the end of the abstract is not obligatory.
Deadline: 15 February 2016.
Send abstracts to: sippola at uni-bremen.de. In the subject window, please write “ACBLPE 2016 Abstract” and your name.
Abstracts will be assessed on the basis of the following three criteria:
- The relevance and significance of the proposed topic and/or the originality of the study
- The argumentation (including the clarity of the argument and the results/conclusions)
- Knowledge of the relevant research literature and theory
