Linguistic Field(s): Language Acquisition

Language Family(ies): Romance

Call Deadline: 01-Mar-2015

Meeting Description:

The Romance Turn conferences bring together researchers from across Europe and
overseas with the aim of communicating results and developing further research
in the acquisition of Romance languages, compared to the acquisition of other
languages. Language acquisition studies both in children and adult learners
are central to building our understanding of human language and how it
develops in the brain. The field has witnessed a continuous growth during the
past three decades. Over this period, empirical evidence provided by research
conducted on the acquisition of Romance languages such as French, Italian,
Catalan, Spanish, Romanian and Portuguese has become increasingly productive.
The linguistic properties of Romance languages (i.e., syntactic, semantic,
morphological and phonological features) make these languages excellent
testing-grounds for both well-known and alternative theories of language
acquisition.

Call for Papers:

Papers are invited for oral and poster presentations in the area of the acquisition of Romance languages. All topics in the fields of (typical and impaired) first, second, and bilingual language acquisition from a generative perspective will be considered, with a special focus on syntax and phonology. Presentations will be 30 minutes long, followed by 15 minutes for discussion, and will be in English.

Authors are invited to send one copy of an abstract in English for review. Abstracts must be at most one page long on an A4 or letter-size sheet (8'''1/2 by 11''') with one-inch margins and typed in at least 12-point font. An optional second page is permitted for data and references. Abstracts must be anonymous.
Abstracts should be submitted via e-mail as a PDF attachment to the following address:
