Meeting Description:

Ce colloque vise principalement à promouvoir l'échange de connaissances nouvelles au sujet des langues en contact. Du côté de la linguistique, nous nous tenons à explorer trois axes de recherche majeurs, notamment le changement linguistique, les enjeux du contact langagier et les conséquences de ce contact, que ce soit d’un point de vue synchronique ou diachronique.

En littérature, nous nous orientons plutôt vers le rapport que l'auteur entretient avec son oeuvre, où la littérature devient alors lieu de rencontres. Nous nous intéressons à ce qui sort de cet union, aux rapports de pouvoirs et d’ordre du discours, à la présence de l’entre-deux, mais aussi à une esthétique de l’hybridité de la langue.

The principal aim of this colloquium is to promote the exchange of new understandings in the field of contact languages. We seek to explore the phenomenon of linguistic contact within the following three areas: linguistic change, issues of linguistic contact and the consequences of contact, whether
from a synchronic or diachronic perspective. 

This colloquium is also oriented towards the role of language contact in literary texts, through the relationship an author has with his or her languages, where  literature becomes a linguistic meeting place. We are interested in what results from this contact, the relationship of authority and order in the discourse, the presence of an in-between, as well as the aesthetic hybridity of language.

Appel à communications :

La Société des Études Supérieures du Département d’Études Françaises (SESDEF) de l’Université de Toronto lance un appel à communications pour son colloque annuel auquel sont conviés des chercheurs-étudiants en provenance de toutes les disciplines. Le colloque se tiendra les 30 avril et 1er mai 2015 à l’Université de Toronto au campus St-George, au centre-ville. Les propositions (350 mots maximum) peuvent être écrites en anglais ou en français, toutefois le sujet de la communication doit être en lien avec le français. La date limite pour la réception des propositions est fixée au 1er mars 2015 (adresse e-mail – colloque.sesdef at utoronto.ca). Les avis d’acceptation seront envoyés d’ici le 15 mars. En tant que conférencière d’honneur, nous avons le plaisir d’accueillir la Professeure Shana Poplack, de l’Université d’Ottawa.

The University of Toronto’s Société des Études Supérieures du Département d’Études Françaises (SESDEF) has issued a call for papers from all disciplines for our annual graduate students’ conference. The conference will be held April 30 - May 1, 2015 at the University of Toronto’s St. George campus, downtown Toronto. Propositions of a maximum of 350 words may be submitted in either French or English, however the subject of the presentation must be related to the French language. The deadline for proposal submissions is March 1, 2015 (email address - colloque.sesdef at utoronto.ca). Notifications of acceptance will be released by March 15. We are honoured to welcome Professor Shana Poplack as our keynote speaker.
