Description:

The Department of English Studies at the University of Trier, Germany, wishes to fill a post of Research Assistant ('Wissenschaftliche/-r Mitarbeiter/-in', 65%, TVL-13) for a limited period of 3 years, starting Oct 01, 2015.

The position will be in the project The Prosody of Derived Words in English, which is concerned with variation in word stress assignment in English derivational morphology. The project is part of the new DFG Research Unit ('Forschergruppe') Spoken Morphology (for more information cf. www.anglistik.hhu.de/fileadmin/redaktion/Fakultaeten/Philosophische_Fakultaet/Anglistik_und_Amerikanistik/English_Language_and_Linguistics/Dateien/Detailseiten/Plag/DFG_Research_Unit.pdf). Work in the project involves empirical, quantitative work (esp. elicitation experiments) as well as theoretical and computational modeling (esp. Analogical Modeling and modeling involving Naïve Discriminant Learning).

Preferred Applicants: 

- Have an MA in English linguistics or equivalent, with distinction
- Have some experience in experimental work
- Have some basic knowledge of statistics
- Have some background in phonology and morphology
- Are willing to develop their PhD project within the context of the Research Unit.
