Description:

PhD studentship in Child Language Acquisition

Applications are invited for a three year PhD studentship in the Department of
Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, University of Cambridge. The successful
candidate will join the EF Education First Lab for Applied Language Learning.
The lab aims to link developmental research in second language acquisition
(SLA) with innovation in teaching practice. One particular focus is the
investigation of learner profiles, using the EF Cambridge Open Access Database
(EFCAMAT), a learner corpus based on writings submitted to the EF online
school, Englishtown. The Research Lab is funded by EF Education First, through
a research grant to Dora Alexopoulou.

The successful candidate will work with Drs Hendriks and Alexopoulou focusing
on child second language acquisition. In particular, the aim of the project is
to pilot a corpus of learner data from the EF English First Schools and
profile child language production in order to provide a comparison between
child and adult profiles and identify the potential differences in the
developmental path that these learners take.

The successful candidate will have a good Master's degree (equivalent of
first-class distinction) in linguistics or related subject by September 30th
2016.

As a member of the EF Research Lab for Applied Language Learning, the student
will join the research cluster for Language Acquisition and Language
Processing and will be part of a world-class multidisciplinary research
environment combining linguists and experts in language learning.

This studentship requires a basic disclosure/standard Disclosure and Barring
Service (DBS) Check. Any offer of employment we make to you will be

as such can receive donations through the eLinguistics Foundation,
which is a registered 501(c) Non Profit organization. Our Federal
Tax number is 45-4211155. These donations can be offset against
your federal and sometimes your state tax return (U.S. tax payers only).
For more information visit the IRS Web-Site, or contact your financial
advisor.

Many companies also offer a gift matching program, such that
they will match any gift you make to a non-profit organization.
Normally this entails your contacting your human resources department
and sending us a form that the eLinguistics Foundation fills in and
returns to your employer. This is generally a simple administrative
procedure that doubles the value of your gift to LINGUIST, without
costing you an extra penny. Please take a moment to check if
your company operates such a program.
