The Cognitive Science Department of Ecole Normale Supérieure
(http://www.cognition.ens.fr/indexENG.html) will offer a 1-year postdoctoral
position (renewable once) intended to develop the program of a 'primate
linguistics', described at:

Starting date and duration:
The position will preferably start between June and October 2016. The
applicant's PhD should have been defended and filed by the starting date. The
position is for one year, but might be renewed once contingent upon funding.
Salary:
The postdoctoral fellow will receive a net salary ranging from 2000 to 2500
euros per month, depending on past experience.
The positions will be funded by the European Research Council (ERC Project
FRONTSEM, PI: Philippe Schlenker)
Tasks:
The postdoc's primary responsibility will be to conduct theoretical and/or
field research on primate linguistics, preferably on great apes (any field
research will be under the authority of Klaus Zuberbühler's group in
Neuchâtel). An ability to adopt a comparative perspective involving several
animal species would be helpful. The postdoc will also have limited teaching
and/or advising responsibilities.
Research Environment:
The postdoc will be affiliated with Institut Jean Nicod (IJN,
http://www.institutnicod.org/) and will also interact with the Laboratoire de
Sciences Cognitives et Psycholinguistique (LSCP,
http://www.lscp.net/index.php?lang=en). The postdoc will be a member of the
LINGUAE group (https://sites.google.com/site/linguaeparis/). Both IJN and LSCP
belong to the Cognitive Science Department of Ecole Normale Supérieure, which
offers a rich interdisciplinary environment.
In addition, the post-doc will ensure coordination with Klaus Zuberbühler's
primatology group at Université de Neuchâtel

Profile:
The successful applicant will have either (i) a strong background in
primatology, with some knowledge of or at least openness to methods from
formal linguistics; or (ii) a strong background in formal linguistics, with
some prior experience involving data from primatology.
