Call Deadline: 15-Apr-2016
Meeting Description:
The annual Mediterranean Editors and Translators Meeting (METM), now in its
twelfth year, is an established CPD and networking event – a highlight in the
calendar for many editors, translators, interpreters and other providers of
English-language support services in the Mediterranean area and beyond. It
offers one and a half days of presentations and keynote speeches, two
half-days of pre-conference workshops, and a program of “Off-METM” events at a
venue in a Mediterranean country.
In 2016, you are invited to join us at a spectacular venue: Centre
Tarraconense, a former Catholic seminary that now houses a state-of-the-art
conference facility. With its stunning combination of old and new, the center
exudes a unique charm—most notably in the covered cloister enveloping a
diminutive 13th-century chapel.Translation
Call for Papers:
We invite proposals that relate to this year’s theme — “Raising standards
through knowledge sharing and peer training”— or that respond to our
association’s broad interest in helping language professionals improve the
quality of their services and their ability to respond to clients’ diverse
needs. We welcome presentations in the following areas:
- Writing and language issues
- Editing and translating (particularly for clients in academia)
- Business, careers and CPD
- Subject- or genre-specific knowledge
- Tools, technology and productivity
Priority will be given to proposals that express a clear take-home message and
explain the relevance of the presentation to our members. Typical METM
presentations describe promising practices, provide knowledge updates or
report research findings. Please note that MET is a knowledge-sharing and
peer-training network and encourages submissions from both seasoned and novice
presenters with expertise to share.
To submit a proposal, please send an abstract of 200-300 words and a short
biography (50-100 words) to METM16 coordinator Kelly Dickeson
(vice-chair at metmeetings.org. Your abstract, which will be peer reviewed,
should briefly describe the what, why and how of your presentation. Please
also provide an informative title. If you would like to discuss the
suitability of your proposal before sending in your abstract, please feel free
to write to Kelly. You can also explore the scope of topics covered in past
meetings on the past conferences pages of the website.
Presentations generally last between 30 and 60 minutes, including time for
discussion (but feel free to consult about timing). The deadline for
submission of abstracts is 15 April 2016, but we encourage early submission.
Proposals should be submitted in the format indicated in the METM16 submission
template.
We look forward to hearing from you!
