THE HONG KONG POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY 

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary
institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including
Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees.  It has a full-time academic staff
strength of around 1,200.  The total consolidated expenditure budget of the
University is close to HK$6.6 billion (US$845 million) per year.  

DEPARTMENT OF CHINESE AND BILINGUAL STUDIES

Postdoctoral Fellow (Ref. 16091201)
[Appointment period: twenty-four months]

The Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies at the Hong Kong Polytechnic
University (PolyU) welcomes aspiring scholars in language sciences to join the
Department as Postdoctoral Fellows.  Candidates will have the opportunity to
work with internationally renowned scholars and join over 100 academic staff
members in linguistics and language sciences at the Faculty of Humanities of
PolyU, which is ranked 23rd in the world (and 5th in Asia) in linguistics by
QS World University Subject Ranking 2014.  

Duties:

The appointee, under the guidance of the Supervisor, will assist in conducting
research in any one of the disciplines as covered by the Department.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have:

- a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution,
specialising in one or more of the following sub-disciplines: (i)
Multilingualism; (ii) Code-switching or Translanguaging; (iii) Medium of
Instruction (CLIL); (iv) Plurilingual Interaction and Plurilingual Identities;
(v) Child Acquisition of Language(s); (vi) Bilingual Education; (vii)
Bilingual Communication Strategies; and (viii) Ethnic Minority Students’ Needs
for Chinese.  Applicants must have no more than three years of
post-qualification experience at the time of application; and 

- a proven track record in high quality research as evidenced by publications
and other research outcomes.
