Description:

The Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia is seeking
applicants for a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant
Professor in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Special Education
in the area of ESL Education and English Learners. The incumbent teaches
undergraduate and graduate courses in the preK-12 ESL teacher education
program, primarily online but also face-to-face. Other duties and
responsibilities include working collaboratively with colleagues, both within
and outside the Curry School of Education, and engaging in outreach in the
area of ESL and English Learners.

To be considered, applicants must complete a doctoral degree in one of the
following prior to the start date of this position: TESOL/ESL/Second Language
Education, Applied Linguistics or a related area with an emphasis in bilingual
and/or second language acquisition education and pedagogy. Applicants must
have at least three years classroom teaching experience in preK-12 ESL and/or
bilingual settings and experience teaching at the university level. Experience
teaching online, an interest in innovative approaches to online education, and
experience working with bi/multilingual populations is also required.
Applicants must also possess knowledge of linguistically and culturally
responsive pedagogy grounded in principles of equity; ESL and content-based
pedagogies grounded in bi/multilingual, second language acquisition, and
applied linguistics scholarship; and ESL assessment and curriculum design.
Knowledge of bi/multilingual approaches to the education of English learners
is preferred.

Position may be eligible to convert to tenure-track at an appropriate time in
the future, consistent with Curry School of Education promotion and tenure
guidelines and candidate qualifications.
