Meeting Description:
At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries the issue of identity took on a new
dimension due to migration which spread values of tolerance, while at the same
time focusing attention on national identity. All these aspects affected the
structure of identity and how it was perceived. Issues such as multiple and
indefinite identity, their transparency and changeability are topical subjects
for researchers to study. In our information society, these aspects are
reflected in the domain of semiotics and receive diverse verbal expression. As
a result, we can talk about such phenomena as language and culture identity,
that will be discussed at the conference.
The conference will cover the following topics:
- terminology in research on the issues of identity: ethnic, linguistic,
cultural, national, and political identity; language and culture identity as
described by Y. Karaulov in his ''Linguistic Identity'' and ''Linguistic
Consciousness'' (O.Potebnya, H.Yavorska, P.Selihey and others), etc;
- linguistics approaches to the study of identity from different aspects and
at different levels of language, from phonetics to the text level of language;
-construction of identity by means of language;
-interrelations between language and other forms of identity (ethnic,
political, etc.): differences in their perception throughout both history and
contemporary society ;
- variability, plurality, and non-identifiability of language and culture
identity: linguistic and cognitive mechanisms that accompany these processes.
Working languages of the conference will be Ukrainian, English, French, and
Russian. Articles reflecting the conference materials will be published in
special collections of academic papers entitled: ''Language and Conceptual
World View'' and ''Literature Studies''.
