Description:
The Office of Global Affairs is the primary administrative unit for
institutional global matters and includes international student services,
International J-1 scholar services, global academic programming and
partnerships, education abroad, and business services in support of global
affairs.
Job Duties:
- The Director of ECULA reports to the Executive Director of the Office of
Global Affairs. He or she is responsible for the both the long-term and
day-to-day functioning of the program, including:
- Setting goals for the program
- Ensuring program compliance with federal, state and University regulations
and processes
- Maintaining national accreditation of the program as appropriate;
- Hiring, evaluating and scheduling staff
- Maintaining ECULA budgets
- Teaching ECULA courses
- Assisting with the worldwide recruitment and admission of students
- Working with others in the Office of Global Affairs to develop marketing and
communication plans for prospective students
- Ensuring that ECULA webpages and informational materials are accurate, up to
date and accessible
- Establishment and oversight of curriculum that meets professional standards
- Overseeing the procurement of books and classroom materials
- Scheduling classrooms; liaising with numerous campus administrative units to
ensure the smooth operation of ECULA and the welfare of its students
- Working with ECU colleges and departments to determine how the program can
best be of service to them
- Organizing activities for ECULA students both inside and outside the
classroom
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Linguistics, TESOL, English, or Modern Languages
- Experience in program development, strategic planning, staffing, budgeting,
marketing, program accreditation, and event management
- At least five years of university-level ESL teaching experience
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate with a broad range of campus units and
organizations
- Excellent proven oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated evidence of continual professional development
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:
- At least two years of ESL teaching experience in a country where English is
not the native language, both living and working among local students
- PhD in Linguistics, TESOL, English, or Modern Languages
