Description:
The Department of Linguistics within the Division of Social Sciences at UC San
Diego (http://ling.ucsd.edu/) invites applications for an Academic Coordinator
for French in our Linguistics Language Program (LLP)
(http://ling.ucsd.edu/language/index.html) for an initial two-year appointment
beginning July 1, 2018, with the possibility of reappointment.
The Academic Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of our French program,
including placement, course design, syllabi, assignment of grades, and
materials development and selection, as well as training, supervision and
evaluation of TAs. In addition, the Academic Coordinator meets regularly with
Academic Coordinators for other languages, LLP staff, and LLP Director to set
program goals, and establish and implement overall policies.
Basic Qualifications:
- Native or near-native command of French and good command of English
- Must hold at least an M.A. (or equivalent) degree
- Record of excellence in language teaching,
- Vocabulary and knowledge of the grammar in the language equivalent to that
of a university-educated speaker
- Familiarity with the cultures where French is spoken
- Experience designing a curriculum, establishing grading policies, and
creating syllabi, lesson plans, tests and other content for French courses
- Experience in working with a diverse group of language program instructors
and staff
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal training in linguistics, second language acquisition, and/or language
teaching.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of
California pay scales.
