Description:
The Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures seeks applications for a
tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to start in Fall 2018.
We are looking for a Spanish Generalist with expertise in Translation and
Translation Studies. In addition to upper-division courses, the successful
applicant will teach Spanish language and translation at all levels. The
candidate will also direct and serve on MA committees as a member of the
Graduate Faculty and be involved in the department’s new Translation Minor.
The department expects the new hire to be research-active, interested in
collaboration with colleagues and students, committed to student success, and
to engage with students through programs such as the department’s Foreign
Language Residence Program or NIU’s Research Rookie Program.
Required Qualifications:
- Native or near-native fluency in Spanish
- a Ph.D. in Spanish, Translation, Linguistics or related field at the time of
appointment
- experience in the use of technology
- Research and teaching experience in Translation Studies (such as translation
theory & practice, localization, public service interpreting)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in different modes of teaching (online/hybrid)
- experience teaching and mentoring students of diverse background
- familiarity with translation memory software.
