Description:

The Department of Language Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga
(UTM) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in Spanish at the
rank of Assistant Professor. The position start date is July 1, 2019. We seek
candidates whose research expertise is in Second Language Acquisition with a
clear research agenda in theoretically driven experimental approaches or
Second Language Education with a clear research agenda in Educational
Technology or Language Teaching & Learning. Spanish must be the primary
language of research focus. Research accomplishments in Heritage Linguistics
would be an asset.

Requirements:
- The successful candidate must have a PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree, in
Spanish Second Language Acquisition, Spanish Second Language Education, or
related area, by the start date or shortly thereafter
- The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate evidence of excellence
in both teaching & research
- Excellence in research can be demonstrated by publications in top-ranked &
field-relevant academic journals or forthcoming publications meeting high
international standards, presentations at significant conferences, research
grants & awards & strong endorsements by referees of high standing
- Evidence of excellence in teaching can be demonstrated through teaching
accomplishments, strong letters of reference, & the teaching dossier including
a statement of teaching philosophy, sample course syllabi & teaching
evaluations, submitted as part of the application
- Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish (i.e., ability to teach in
Spanish at all levels of the undergraduate & graduate programs) & a functional
level of English proficiency are required

Duties:
- The successful candidate will teach undergraduate Language, Linguistics &/or
Teaching & Learning courses in the field of Spanish at the Department of
Language Studies, UTM & engage in the experiential learning activities offered
in the Department
- The successful candidate will be expected to develop & maintain an active,
independent, innovative, internationally competitive, & externally funded
program of research, to contribute to the education & training of
undergraduate students as well as graduate students & to develop innovative
curriculum in Spanish
- S/he will undertake graduate teaching & supervision as a member of the
Graduate Department of Spanish & Portuguese or the Graduate Department of
Curriculum, Teaching & Learning, OISE, at the St George campus
