Meeting Description:

The research unit Gender Studies, Languages and Sociolinguistic Diversity
organises the Women and Men Citizenship and the Living together/Community Life
in the Algerian Official Textbook national conference as part of the project
PRFU 2019-2022.

The school textbook has a central role in the processes of learning and in
offering models of identification to pupils and their parents. Beyond their
curricula and pedagogical objectives, school textbooks reflect common the
values a society seeks to instil in children. The school textbooks are thus
important educational tool intended to transmit both knowledge and values,
including civic values and citizenship education


Call for Papers:

Women and Men Citizenship, the Living together in the Algerian Official
Textbook

The research unit Gender Studies, Languages and Sociolinguistic Diversity
organises the Women and Men Citizenship and the Living together national
conference in the Algerian Official Textbook 

We mainly focus on language school textbooks designed for Algerian pupils
during the period 2003-2018
We invite contributions addressing the conference theme on women and men
citizenship, the living together in the official school textbook written in
Arabic, Tamazight, English, French and Spanish. We particularly welcome
studies on women and men representations from a diachronic perspective 
     
This conference also seeks to give an opportunity to postgraduates and early-
stage researchers to present their research inquiries in the poster sessions
which will run all throughout the conference. (PhD thesis or master's
dissertation not yet completed).
The conference thematic scope allows addressing research areas related, but
not limited to, the following themes and sub-themes:

I. A diachronic perspective on gender and citizenship in the Algerian school
textbooks of first and second generation

A. The Mapping of Women and men citizenship in language school textbooks 
B.  Construction and reconstruction of citizenship in official school
curriculum
C. Perspectives towards reform and improvement

II. Identity and   identification of men and women in the Algerian language
school textbook

A. The role of the school textbook in the promotion of socio-cultural
integration
B. The school textbook: A means of perpetuating clichés, stereotypes and
prejudices   
C. The school textbook and identity construction

III. Diversity and the living together / community life 
 
A. What family model does the Algerian language school textbook give to
Pupils? 
B. Multiculturalism and tolerance in the Algerian language school textbook
C. Exclusion and integration of men and women in the Algerian language school
textbook

IV. Panel Discussion: Perspectives for the Future 

What school textbooks for future post Hirak citizens?

1. Submission deadline: 15 January 2020
2. Notification : 30 January 2020
3. Conference dates: 15-16 April 2020
4. Submission Guidelines:  Papers should be 20 minutes in length (+ a 10
minute discussion).
5. Proposals should contain the following information: 
- Name 
- Institutional affiliation 
- Phone number
- Short bio-bibliography

Anonymous abstracts of 300 words and 5 keywords should be sent to the

The registration fee to be paid at the conference desk on the first day of the
conference includes accommodation, participation in the conference, book of
abstracts, conference /participation attendance certificate,  two lunches
during the conference, badge, conference accessories and coffee breaks.
