Description:

The University of Potsdam, Faculty of Human Sciences, Chair in Computational
Linguistics invites applications for the following position subject to funding
commitment:

Academic Staff Member (Postdoc) [ Requisition No.: 205/2019 ]

The position is available from June 1st, 2019. The position is for 40 hours of
work per week. The salary is determined by the collective bargaining agreement
for public employees in Germany (TV-L 13 Ost). The initial duration of the
contract is for three years (in accordance with Section 2 subsection 1 of the
German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Law (WissZeitVG)).

Responsibilities:
- The post-doctoral researcher is expected to take an active role in the
research activities of Prof. Schlangen’s research group. The exact topic is
open, but should relate to the interests of the group (situated dialogue,
language & vision, incremental dialogue processing, computational semantics,
natural language generation, human/robot interaction)
- The position carries a teaching load in the Computational Linguistics BA
and/or MSc. This could consist of two separate classes, or one class + lab

Requirements:
- A PhD in Computational Linguistics, Computer Science or related fields (in
hand by start of contract)
- Experience with current NLP methods (e.g., deep learning) and good writing
skills, as evidenced through publications at top venues (e.g., *ACL)
- Strong programming skills are required; experience with user-facing systems
(interacting with / presenting output to users) a plus
- Experience with interactive systems, and/or processing video, audio, or
images a plus
 The working language of the group is English. Very good spoken and written
command of English is required
- Ability to teach undergraduate classes in German a plus

Background:
Prof. Schlangen’s research group is embedded there in the Department of
Linguistics and the University’s designated Research Focus in Cognitive
Sciences. It provides a dynamic and international research environment and
maintains close ties with the departments of computer science and psychology.
The department offers a BSc in Computational Linguistics and an MSc “Cognitive
Systems: Language, Learning, and Reasoning” (with a specialisation in CL;
taught in English).

Under the laws of the federal state of Brandenburg, employees under this
contract are permitted to dedicate at least 33% of their contract time for
their scientific qualification. The University of Potsdam strives to maintain
