Job Description:
The successful candidate is expected to prepare, coordinate and teach new
courses in the European Languages and Cultures programme, including courses in
Russian on language, politics and society as well as Russian language
instruction, research, and supervise undergraduate, graduate and PhD students.
The candidate is expected to develop new ideas in research and education and
acquire funding (independently or jointly with other colleagues) for future
research. Ideally, areas of specialisation includes Political Discourse
Analysis, focused on the Russian language and Russian-speaking societies and
communities, either from a political science, sociolinguistic, sociological,
anthropological or related perspective. We are especially interested in
candidates with research and teaching experience on topics such as language
ideologies and policies, migration, multilingualism, nationalism, and
politico-cultural identities.

The selected candidate will work with other colleagues in the Chair groups of
Language & Society and Politics & Society, organized within the European
Languages and Cultures Department. 

The position will involve a teaching load of 60% (including administration)
and 40% research. The call is open to candidates from background in
linguistics, political science, sociology, anthropology, history or other
related fields. The successful candidate should demonstrate his/her ability to
connect effectively to ongoing research projects and contribute to the
faculty’s excellence in teaching and research.

Qualifications:
Candidates for the position must have:
- APhD in Linguistics, Political Science, or other related fields
- A C2 or native level of Russian and an ability to teach Russian language
courses and content courses in Russian
- Interest in teaching interdisciplinary modules
- Teaching experience at university level with relevant teaching
qualifications (such as a BKO)
- Excellent research qualities, as evidenced by a publication record in
international peer-reviewed journals
- Ability to work both individually and in a (virtual) multidisciplinary team
- Organisational competence and excellent communication skills
- A willingness to obtain research funding grants
-Has a good command of Dutch and English or is willing to learn the language
within two years
- Ability to meet deadlines and produce work of a consistently high standards.

Conditions of employment: 
The University of Groningen offers a salary for the Assistant Professor
position depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of €
3,637 (salary scale 11 Dutch Universities) to a maximum of € 5,656 (scale 12)
gross per month for a full-time position. On top of this income, the candidate
will receive an 8% holiday allowance and an annual bonus of 8.3%. The
conditions are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch
Universities.

The appointment will initially be on a temporary basis for five years with the
possibility of becoming a permanent position following a positive Results and
Development assessment. Assessment for a permanent position is possible from
the second year onwards. The appointment will ideally begin in September 2019.
