Subject: International Conference on Multilingual Practice
Full Title: International Conference on Multilingual Practice
Short Title: ICOMP
Date: 24-Feb-2020 - 26-Feb-2020
Location: Szczecin, Poland
Contact Person: Hanna Pułaczewska
Meeting Email: icomp at usz.edu.pl
Web Site: http://icomp.usz.edu.pl
Linguistic Field(s): Sociolinguistics
Call Deadline: 30-Aug-2019
Meeting Description:
Uniwersytet Szczeciński is situated on the Polish-German border. Thus, it is
best placed to become a strong centre of studies on multilingual practices
specific to border regions. The conference is one of the measures taken in
order to establish a research focus at the University of Szczecin on
multilingualism in general, and multilingualism accompanied by transcultural
processes in border areas in particular. This includes issues in linguistic
and cultural diversification within families, which develops specific traits
in transitional regions distinguished by high levels of cross-border mobility.
Papers on topics related to multilingual families and practices in border
regions will be given special consideration.
Equally welcome are papers devoted to the impact of L2 on L1, for which a
separate section is planned. In particular, we wish to promote the exchange of
knowledge on the role of individual and societal multilingualism in ongoing
processes of language change.
The proximity to the Scandinavian countries is an additional asset of the
conference location for participants from that region. Scandinavian studies at
the University of Szczecin are a new but well established area.
The languages of the conference are English, Polish and German.
