Subject: Pidgin Language Phonological Redundancy
Hi,
I am studying Tok Pisin (PNG)for clinical purposes and am curious to
understand the current thinking around phonological redundancy in pidgins, and
how that changes with creolisation. I found very few minimal pairs suitable to
use with children in a clinical setting.
I formed a hypothesis that pidgins have fewer minimal pairs because their
priority is clarity in communication. I have found some writing about
redundancy in English, but little about how it works in pidgins and creoles.
Thank you for allowing me to submit.
