The goal of the Summer School of Catalan Linguistics (Escola d’Estiu de
Lingüística Catalana, EDELC), which will be held from the 19th to the 24th of
July 2021, is to bring together students and instructors of Catalan
linguistics both from Catalan universities and from universities abroad. Thus,
the EDELC aims to provide training in Catalan linguistics to undergraduate or
graduate students who wish to strengthen their knowledge in this area, with
special attention to students from universities outside the Catalan linguistic
domain who have an interest in the Catalan language or who have already begun
to carry out research on some aspect of this field. In addition, there will be
a space for students to present their research in order to facilitate direct
interaction with specialist teachers. Therefore, EDELC seeks to promote the
collaboration, codirection and creation of a mentoring network in Catalan
linguistics.

Call for courses for the Summer School of Catalan Linguistics (EDELC)
The goal of the Summer School of Catalan Linguistics (Escola d’Estiu de
Lingüística Catalana, EDELC), which will be held from the 19th to the 24th of
July 2021, is to bring together students and instructors of Catalan
linguistics both from Catalan universities and from universities abroad. Thus,
the EDELC aims to provide training in Catalan linguistics to undergraduate or
graduate students who wish to strengthen their knowledge in this area, with
special attention to students from universities outside the Catalan linguistic
domain who have an interest in the Catalan language or who have already begun
to carry out research on some aspect of this field. In addition, there will be
a space for students to present their research in order to facilitate direct
interaction with specialist teachers. Therefore, EDELC seeks to promote the
collaboration, codirection and creation of a mentoring network in Catalan
linguistics.
The School, which will be fully online in its first edition, will last for one
week, with a program consisting of six introductory courses associated with
one of the following areas:
- Phonetics/phonology
- Morphology
- Pragmatics/semantics
- Syntax
- Sociolinguistics
- Other areas (to be specified)
Each course shall have a duration of 4.5 hours distributed across three
sessions of one hour and a half each. The teachers of the accepted courses
will be paid a honorarium.
Proposals for courses that offer an introduction to any of the suggested
disciplines are welcome, either from a theoretical or an experimental
perspective, as well as from interdisciplinary approaches incorporating
knowledge from psychology, computer science or the social sciences, among
others. EDELC will also accept proposals from more than one instructor.
The proposal should provide the following information:
Course title, work area and teacher
Short CV of the instructor(s) (maximum 2 pages, Times New Roman 12, 2.54 cm)
Justification and motivation of the course (maximum 200 words)
Brief course description (maximum 500 words)
Draft syllabus and basic literature
Preferred language of the course: Catalan, English, no preference.
