2022-23 Student Research Assistantship
Brandeis University, Bilingual Russian Child and child-directed speech Corpus
(BiRCh)
Meaning in Language Lab at Brandeis University is looking for an undergraduate
research assistant to join the Bilingual Russian Child and Child-directed
Speech Corpus Project (BiRCh) team in performing syntactic annotation of the
corpus and conducting research based on it. The REU participant will receive
extensive training in the annotation, and mentoring in research. This remote
position offers up to 20 hr/week with a minimum commitment of 5 hr/week,
depending on applicant’s availability. The stipend is calculated based on
$16/hour with increase over time.
Job requirements:
- Knowledge of theoretical syntax in the generative tradition (at the level
of advanced undergraduate or graduate coursework)
- Advanced abilities in Russian: native or near-native fluency in Russian is
strongly preferred, but Advanced-level second language learners will also be
considered
- The ability to conduct computer-assisted annotation (Training in specific
software and annotation frameworks will be provided.)
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residence for REU eligibility.
Syntactic annotator will collaborate with the principal investigator and other
RAs on creating and refining syntactic annotation guidelines for Russian and
will conduct computer-assisted manual syntactic annotation of the data.
