Description:
The Linguistics Program and Department of English at William & Mary, a public
university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, seeks applications for a tenure
track position at the Assistant Professor level in First Language Acquisition
and Psycholinguistics. Appointment will begin August 10, 2023.
We are interested in individuals with research expertise using experimental
behavioral methodologies in the study of children learning their first
language(s). William & Mary values diversity and invites applications from
underrepresented groups who will enrich the research, teaching, and service
missions of the university.
Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The
applicant is expected to have a strong record of undergraduate teaching and
scholarly achievement and to maintain a vibrant experimental research program
in first language acquisition.
Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. Successful applicants must
show evidence of the skills to teach compelling courses in Introduction to
Linguistics, First Language Acquisition, Psycholinguistics, Experimental
Methods in Linguistics and other lecture and seminar-style courses.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Linguistics at the time of appointment (August
10, 2023) and have previous experience in teaching and in mentoring successful
undergraduate research. Experience directing an active undergraduate research
lab in first language acquisition and mentoring students’ work on experimental
research projects and honors theses and will show evidence of research
involving members of diverse communities.
