Description:

The Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese in the College of the
Liberal Arts at the Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a
Research Coordinator (Human Research Technologist 3) to work under the
direction of Dr. Giuli Dussias. The Department includes a highly interactive
group of faculty and students whose interests include bilingualism, language
processing, language acquisition in children and adults, language contact, and
language variation.

Key responsibilities for this position include:
 - Preparing materials for experimentation for behavioral studies, eye
tracking and electrophysiological studies, programming experiments and testing
research participants using each of these methods
 - Performing statistical analyses using a range of software applications
 - Organizing the laboratory schedule, recruiting research participants,
developing appropriate databases, scheduling participant and data collection
for studies; maintaining subject/participant database
 - Training lab members in data recording functions and appropriate use of
equipment used in research studies
 - Maintaining all laboratory supplies and equipment to always ensure good
working order for research studies
 - Drafting protocols, abstracts and consent forms; completing and submitting
Institutional Review Board (IRB) paperwork and modifications; entering and
analyzing data in support of scientific papers; developing and organizing
research materials such as visit forms, spreadsheets, and other documents
 - Leading a project team involved in completion of research projects (working
with minimal supervision, conferring with the manager on unusual matters)

Education and Experience: 
This position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.

Candidates should have excellent interpersonal, communication and
organizational skills; promote a culture that is conducive to effective
relationships among diverse team members; the ability to manage multiple
projects simultaneously; and a high curiosity and interest in language science
research and methods. Proficiency with the Spanish language is highly
desirable. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a
commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community,
or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the
opportunity. The Research Coordinator will frequently use the following
software, systems and applications: ELAN, E-prime, MATLAB, Praat, R, SR
research software, BrainVision software.

The College of the Liberal Arts is supportive of flexible work arrangements
