Description:
The Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science in the College of Arts and
Sciences invites applications for an Open Rank position (Assistant, Associate
or Full Professor), tenure track, in Phonetics and/or Phonology. The position
is expected to begin on August 16, 2023.
Applicants for this position should have a Ph.D. in linguistics, cognitive
science, psychology or a related field. The Ph.D. must be in hand prior to the
start of the appointment. We seek individuals who demonstrate the drive and
vision to develop an innovative, cutting edge and internationally recognized
research program in Phonetics and/or Phonology. Senior candidates with an
established research program and a proven record of productivity and student
mentoring are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is
expected to teach a subset of the following courses: Introduction to
Linguistics, Science of Language, Introduction to Speech and Hearing Science,
Acoustic Phonetics, Introduction to Phonology, Phonetics (graduate level),
Phonology I and II, Linguistic Field Methods, and Acquisition of Phonology.
They will also be expected to offer graduate seminars in areas of their
specialization. Other duties include supervision of graduate students,
undergraduate advising, involvement in curricular development, contributions
to diversity, equity and inclusion within the department and the university,
and performance of University and Department service. The department has
state-of-the-art laboratories in phonetics, phonology, syntax and
psycholinguistics and will provide a facility to support the new faculty’s
research.

of teaching experience and philosophy (including evidence of teaching ability
