Description:
The Program in Linguistics at Emory University in Atlanta, GA seeks a
full-time faculty member in Sociolinguistics at the rank of Assistant Teaching
Professor to begin Fall 2023. We are looking for a strong teacher-scholar
dedicated to undergraduate education to join our thriving program. We are
seeking a language variationist who works in minoritized language varieties
and communities in North America, such as African American Language, Latinx
language, LGBTQ+ varieties, Indigenous languages, Jewish languages, ASL, or
other.
We are looking for a dynamic instructor with classroom experience in
Linguistics to teach 5 courses per year (3-2 teaching load), including
introductory and advanced courses in sociolinguistics, general linguistics,
language variation, and the candidate’s area of expertise. Candidates should
be able to mentor a diverse community of students and consider linguistics to
be fundamentally connected to issues of social justice and Diversity, Equity,
and Inclusion.
The position of Assistant Teaching Professor is a part of Emory’s Lecture
Track Faculty (LTF) with renewable contracts, and with the possibility of
promotion through the ranks of Associate Teaching Professor and Full Teaching
Professor

Qualifications:
A PhD in Linguistics (or a closely related field) is required; degree in hand
is preferred, but advanced ABDs will be considered.
