Subject: Prosody-semantics Interface via Gaming: The Actors Challenge data collection project
The CLIC group at CIMEC (Center for Mind/Brain Science, University of
Trento, Italy) has just released Actors Challenge
(https://www.actorschallenge.eu), an online game-with-a-purpose
designed to collect and validate minimal pairs on the
mapping between prosody and semantics/syntax (emotions, association
with focus, structural disambiguation, etc.) in multiple languages
(English, Italian, German, French, more coming). The players win
points by alternating between the role of actors doing
an audition and casting directors sorting through other players'
performances. The data collected will be freely
available to the linguistic community.
Try out the game and propose it to your friends and students: we need
to reach the point where the game is
self-sustained in every language. Proposals for collaboration or
suggestions on additional materials to test via the
game are welcome.
