Meeting Description:
The conference explores cultural hybridity through the lens of
Bakhtin's concept of linguistic hybridity and its broader cultural
implications. It focuses on societies influenced by global trends,
particularly the dominance of English in fields like business,
education, and entertainment. For instance, the Arabian Gulf showcases
the tension between traditional values and global pressures, as seen
in the widespread adoption of English in academia, marginalizing
Modern Standard Arabic. Younger, multilingual generations adeptly
navigate between cultural and linguistic realms, creating complex
identities that balance tradition with global influences. The
conference invites papers exploring these dynamics in regions such as
the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. By addressing
the interplay of global linguistics and local identity preservation,
it seeks to highlight the adaptability and resilience of contemporary
societies in a rapidly evolving world.
