Description:

The School of Languages, Linguistics and Cultures wishes to make a
temporary appointment (3 years) for a Lecturer
in Italian, with expertise in Italian modern and contemporary
literature and culture. Candidates should have a
proven ability to teach and conduct research on Italian literature of
19th / 20th century, along with experience in
language teaching at university undergraduate level.
Candidates must have a PhD in Italian Studies. They must have an
excellent track record in research commensurate
with their career stage. They will have native or near-native
competence in Italian combined with excellent
communication skills in English. The post is within the multi-lingual,
interdisciplinary School of Languages, Cultures
and Linguistics and the successful candidate may be involved in
cross-School teaching.

The successful candidate will complement the existing team of
lecturing staff who have specialisms in literary and
cultural studies, linguistics, and film studies. Italian Studies at
UCD is committed to delivering high-quality
undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across a broad curriculum and
we particularly welcome applicants who
demonstrate the ability to deliver innovative, engaging teaching. A
university teaching qualification, or demonstrable
engagement with continuous professional development in pedagogy and
pedagogic innovation, is desirable.

Selection Criteria
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge
and/or experience that the successful candidate would
need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities
of the post. Applications will be assessed on the
basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.

Mandatory:
Experience and Qualifications
 • A PhD in Italian Studies in a relevant area
 • Proven record of ability to conduct research, reflected in the
authorship of high-quality publications, or other
research outputs commensurate with career stage
 • Proven record of ability to organise and contribute to research
conferences and cultural events
 • Evidence of proven teaching ability and research interests in
19th/20th-century Italian literature
 • Native or near-native proficiency in Italian (at CEFR level C2),
combined with excellent communication skills
in English
 • A proven ability and willingness to teach on Italian language
modules and on other modules outside areas
of specialist research interest
 • Evidence of academic leadership ability, including willingness to
design new modules and to contribute to
design of new programmes
 • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and willingness to
work as part of a team in a professional
and collegiate manner
 • Proven high-quality administrative skills
 • Demonstrable evidence in fostering an inclusive environment and a
level of awareness of an equality,
diversity and inclusion agenda within academia

Desirable:
 • Evidence of engagement with the methodologies of contemporary
Italian literary or cultural studies
 • Experience of contributing to interdisciplinary modules and/or
programmes within Subject, School and
across the wider academic community at university level
 • Demonstrable evidence of continuous professional development in
university teaching and learning
 • Interest in teaching innovation, including use of digital
technologies
 • Interest in the organization of extra-curricular, outreach or
public educational and cultural activities
