Description:

Applications are invited for a permanent position as Lecturer/
Assistant Professor in Linguistics at UCD. Candidates
must have a PhD in Linguistics. The successful candidate’s area of
research will focus on Phonetics and Phonology
and will complement the existing team of lecturing staff who have
specialisms in sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics,
syntax and semantics. The ability to also teach modules in other
subdisciplines of Linguistics e.g. Minority and
endangered languages; computational approaches; typology; (second)
language acquisition, forensic linguistics etc.
at final year undergraduate level would also be welcome. Applicants
must have an excellent track record in
research commensurate with their career stage. They will have proven
experience in and commitment to the
teaching of the Linguistics in a university setting. The post is
within the multilingual, interdisciplinary School of
Languages, Cultures and Linguistics and the candidate will also be
involved in cross-School teaching.

Selection Criteria
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge
and/or experience that the successful candidate would
need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities
of the post. Applications will be assessed on the
basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.

Experience and Qualifications
 • A PhD in Linguistics
 • Proven record of ability to conduct research, reflected in the
authorship of high-quality publications, or other
research outputs commensurate with career stage
 • Proven record of ability to organise and contribute to research
conferences and cultural events
 • Evidence of proven teaching ability and research interests in
Phonetics and/or Phonology and one or more
other related fields at university level
 • Excellent communication skills in English
 • A proven ability and willingness to teach on Linguistics modules
outside areas of specialist research interest
 • Evidence of academic leadership ability, including willingness to
design new modules and to contribute to
design of new programmes
 • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and willingness to
work as part of a team in a professional
and collegiate manner
 • Proven high-quality administrative skills
 • Demonstrable evidence in fostering an inclusive environment and a
level of awareness of an equality,
diversity and inclusion agenda within academia

Desirable:
 • Experience of contributing to interdisciplinary modules and/or
programmes within Subject, School and
across the wider academic community at university level
 • Demonstrable evidence of continuous professional development in
university teaching and learning
 • Evidence of teaching innovation, including use of digital
technologies and innovative teaching approaches
 • Interest in the organization of extra-curricular, outreach or
public educational and cultural activities
