**Open Call**
*Short-term fellowships for post-doctoral researchers as part of the
DFG Priority Programme 2392 “Visual Communication” (ViCom)*

The Priority Programme "Visual Communication. Theoretical, Empirical,
and Applied Perspectives (ViCom)" investigates the specific features
and linguistic significance of visual communication and comprises 19
scientific projects investigating different aspects of visual
communication. ViCom encompasses sign languages as fully developed
natural languages that exclusively rely on the visual channel for
communication, as well as visual communicative means that enhance
spoken language such as co-speech gestures. Additionally, it explores
pictorial narratives, and the visual communication strategies in
human-computer interaction, animal communication and in the context of
clinical aspects and language acquisition. Details can be found here:
https://vicom.info/

The next phase will have a clear focus on visual features within
theoretical linguistics and the philosophy of language, such as the
modeling of demonstration, gesture, constructed action, and other
clearly visually based phenomena.

We offer two 6-months fellowships for postdoctoral and look for
applicants who aim at writing a project proposal for the second phase
of ViCom starting November 2025 (deadline for project proposals April
2025). The fellowship enables young researchers to write their first
own grant proposal as well as to collaborate with experts within ViCom
and with international invited experts on the topic of visual
communication. We offer a stimulating international collaborative
environment, trainings in methodology and data evaluation as well as
measures fostering individual career development. Applications should
indicate the research area to which the proposal relates or, if
applicable, the specific research projects of ViCom with which the
collaboration is intended.

*Funding period*: November – April 2025
*Funding*: 20.000 euros in total for the 6 months, paid monthly minus
tax
*Application deadline*: 31 July 2024

*Application documents*
- Cover letter (including contact details and information regarding
motivation and ViCom research domain/project for collaboration)
- First draft of a proposal for a postdoc project within the second
phase of ViCom with own position and the candidate being the PI (max.
2 pages A4, incl. references)
- CV (including information on MA degree, PhD degree/ topic, etc. and
list of publications and conference presentations)
- A work plan for the six months of funding
- Two names and contact details of referees who may be contacted by
the search committee by e-mail
- Copy of the certificates of the university degrees

*Who can apply?*
Postdoctoral researchers who have completed their doctorate within the
last five years, are not funded elsewhere, wish to participate in the
next phase of ViCom and are affiliated with a German research
institution.

*Contact and Submission*
Please contact Theresa Stender (stender at lingua.uni-frankfurt.de) for
questions concerning the fellowships. Applications should be submitted
electronically by e-mail (as one PDF file) to contact at vicom.info.
