The Arabic Linguistics Society (ALS) together with Duke’s Department
of Asian & Middle Eastern Studies and the Program in Linguistics are
pleased to announce the 38th Annual Symposium on Arabic Linguistics
(ASAL38) to be held at Duke University on April 11 - 12, 2025.
Papers are invited on topics that deal with theoretical and
experimental issues in Arabic Linguistics. Presentations on research
in the following areas of Arabic linguistics are welcome:
• Linguistic analysis (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and
pragmatics)
• Sociolinguistics
• Psycholinguistics
• Discourse analysis
• Historical linguistics
• Computational linguistics
• Language acquisition (first, second, and heritage)
• Neurolinguistics
• Clinical linguistics
Submission instructions:
We invite submissions for platform presentations (20 minutes + 10
minutes for questions). There will also be a poster session and a
special session on Arabic in Contact Situations: Descriptive and
Theoretical Approaches.
Persons interested in presenting papers are requested to submit a
one-page abstract in English. Abstracts should include the title of
the paper, a brief statement of the research question or topic
addressed, and a summary clearly stating how the paper is developed
(the reasoning, data, and results), followed by a discussion of the
study and its contribution.
Authors are requested to check the following link for specific

Abstracts written in any other language will be rejected.
