Linguistic Field(s): Historical Linguistics; Language Documentation;
Phonetics; Phonology; Typology
Language Family(ies): Uralic
Call Deadline: 30-Sep-2024
Meeting Description:
In many – if not all – Uralic languages, one can find consonants
and/or vowels whose phonemic status can be debated, or at least ones
that rarely distinguish word forms since they only occur in a very
restricted set of phonological environments. Any papers discussing
marginal phonemes, arguing for or against any of them, discussing them
from either a synchronic or a historical point of view, empirically or
theoretically, in a particular dialect or language or
cross-linguistically (among Uralic languages or also outside of them)
are welcome. The language of the workshop is English.
Call for Papers:
All abstracts must be written in English. The length of an abstract
may not exceed 2 pages, including references; font size 12, line
spacing 1.5, margins 2.5 cm everywhere, A4 paper. The abstract must be
submitted as an anonymized attachment (preferably word and pdf file)
to cifu14 at ut.ee. In the body text of the email include your name,
affiliation, and the title of the talk. Please also indicate in your
email that your abstract is being submitted as an oral presentation to
the symposium Marginal Phonemes. Abstract proposals must be submitted
by September 30, 2024.
