Description:
The Center for Language Science (CLS) in the College of the Liberal
Arts at Penn State seeks a Human Research Technologist to assist in
the operations and research of the labs within CLS.
The CLS is an interdisciplinary group of linguists, psycholinguists,
applied linguists, speech-language pathologists, speech scientists,
and cognitive neuroscientists who share an interest in language
acquisition and bilingualism. CLS researchers employ a variety of
methods including behavioral measures, eye tracking,
electrophysiological methods (EEG/ERP), and fMRI.
One of the main responsibilities of the Human Research Technologist
will be to assist with CLS faculty research. This will involve (but is
not limited to) recruiting and testing participants using the above
methods, as well as data processing and analysis.
Other Key Responsibilities:
Managing the laboratory operations (including oversight of equipment
maintenance and research supplies, and participant scheduling)
Providing technical support for students and faculty
Providing general support for the CLS, including promotion and
knowledge sharing of ongoing research and studies in the lab
Recruiting and training undergraduate research assistants

Education and Experience:
This position will be filled as a Human Research Technologist – Social
Sciences – Professional, which requires an Associate degree, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates should have excellent interpersonal, communication, and
organizational skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple
simultaneous projects.
Training and experience with at least one technical method (e.g., eye
tracking, EEG/ERP, acoustic analysis in Praat) is required, and
knowledge of statistics is also desirable. Additional training will be
provided for technical methods and for conducting research with human
participants.
In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a
commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus
community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so,
given the opportunity.
