Job Title: Tenure Track position in French language and (oral and
signed) Interpretation
Job Rank: Assistant Professor

Specialty Areas: General Linguistics

Required Language(s): Catalan-Valencian-Balear (cat)
                      French (fra)

Description:

We are seeking to fill a faculty position in the area of French
language and (oral and signed) interpretation. This is a regular,
tenure-track faculty appointment. Duties include research and
knowledge transfer, teaching, and administrative service.

Research profile:
We are seeking to hire a researcher with a PhD in (French)
Language/Linguistics or allied field with advanced experience in oral
and signed interpretation who will be establishing, or have
established, a track record of high-quality research in areas that can
complement the department’s research strengths and contribute to its
program in sign language. Commitment to excellence in teaching and
supervision is expected, both at the undergraduate and graduate
levels, and both as a specialist and generalist. The candidate is
expected to have skills for transferring research outcomes to the
academic community as well as society at large.
While pursuing their own research agenda, the candidate is expected to
strengthen the Department’s research priorities and to be able to
engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with research groups in the
Department and, more broadly, the Catalan research ecosystem. We
particularly welcome applications from scholars whose research and
teaching interests will establish new connections with other research
areas in the department including computational linguistics, corpus
studies, language acquisition, contrastive linguistic analysis,
language contact, language attitudes, discourse analysis, and/or
linguistic theory more generally. The candidate should have a clear
vision on how to apply for funding, with an ambitious but realistic
plan for the next five years. Priority will be given to candidates who
provide evidence of capacity for cutting-edge research and use of
state-of-the-art methods, independent of the total number of years of
experience and/or current position. Merits will be assessed in
proportion to the number of years since the start of the PhD.

Teaching responsibilities:
The appointee will teach between 120 and 180 classroom hours annually
in undergraduate and graduate courses, including final project
supervision (undergraduate, master’s and PhD dissertations).
Specifically, they will be expected to coordinate teams of co-teachers
as well as teach in the modules related to French language and
grammatical description, Catalan Sign Language, and oral and signed
interpreting, in the BA degrees offered by the School of Translation
and Language Sciences. Capacity to teach in the master’s degrees of
the Department (Master’s in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics,
Master’s in Discourse Studies, and Master’s in Translation Studies)
will also be valued.
