Description:
The position is located in the teaching and research area of Digitized
Language Research that is to be developed at School III of Linguistics
and Cultural Studies. It is localized at the interface of
linguistics/language acquisition research/language didactics and
corpus linguistics on the one hand and computer science with a focus
on data analysis/data science and possibly the analysis of large data
sets (Big Data), e.g. with the help of Artificial Intelligence
(AI)/Machine Learning (ML)/Natural Language Processing (NLP), on the
other hand.
Tasks:
The position involves
- Support and establishment of the digital Speech-Lab of School III,
which will allow students and doctoral candidates to test and use
digital speech data collection and digital speech processing and
analysis with the help of computational linguistic methods,
- Consulting and training activities with respect to programming
skills, data analysis, databases for linguistic and language didactic
projects at the School of Linguistics and Cultural Studies,
- development work in these projects,
- Own research in Digital Humanities, with a focus on
language/linguistics.
- Development and implementation of modules in the above-mentioned
areas, this in cooperation with the Department of Computing Science,
- Teaching in the School of Linguistics and Cultural Studies, courses
on programming for linguists/language didacticians, on digitized data
analysis and databases, on digital language processing, on (digital)
empirical research methods according to the (2 weekly classes of 2
hours per semester)
Required is
- a university degree in computational linguistics/linguistic data
processing, digital humanities with a focus on language, computer
science with a focus on language, linguistics with a focus on digital
language data collection and analysis, and
- a PhD, preferably in one of the above-mentioned areas.
- programming skills, also for the implementation of language data
annotation and analysis
- the willingness to acquire good knowledge of German (in case
candidate does not speak German yet).
Desirable is
- a focus on computational linguistics/linguistic data processing,
digital humanities with a focus on the linguistic domain, computing
science with a focus on the linguistic domain, or linguistics with a
focus on digital language data collection and analysis,
- Experience in corpus linguistic work,
- Experience with digital research methods for language data
collection, processing, and analysis,
- Knowledge of frameworks such as NLTK, openNLP, or CoreNLP,
- statistical knowledge and experience with R,
- Teaching experience in the above-mentioned areas,
- very good knowledge of English,
- good knowledge of German.
