Subject: New open access model at Word Structure
The editors of Word Structure are pleased to announce that as of late
2024, the journal has shifted to a "Subscribe to Open" funding model,
to promote Open Access.
Subscribe to Open is a model that converts a journal’s gated content
to Open Access (OA) through using existing library payments and
relationships. Institutions subscribe to journals in the usual
fashion, and as long as sufficient revenue for the year is reached,
the journal’s volume for the current year is published OA. This
therefore removes the reliance on author fees, such as Article
Processing Charges (APCs).
Benefits for Authors (if the journal receives enough subscriptions to
become Open Access):
- Authors can publish their articles Open Access, free of charge,
eliminating the need for author processing fees (APCs) and ensuring
full compliance with Open Access mandates.
- Open Access articles are made available online immediately and are
fully accessible, leading to higher downloads and citations, which can
contribute towards building an author’s profile in their field.
Benefits for Libraries:
- Perpetual access to the purchased volume.
- Access during the subscription term to the journal’s backfile
(exclusive benefit for subscribers only).
- Open Access Publish Guarantee for first authors based at
institutions that subscribe or renew before 31 March.
- Contribution towards making the current volume(s) OA in perpetuity
and support for the transition towards Open Access, without additional
administrative effort.
