THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG
Applications are invited for appointment as Professor/Associate

Linguistics in the School of Humanities (Linguistics) (Ref.: 530396),
to commence on September 1, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Appointment as Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year
fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration
for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term
contract.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Linguistics, or a related field. The
ideal candidate will have an exemplary research record and a
transdisciplinary approach cutting across subfields. We seek to hire a

science skills. The successful candidate should have experience
collecting and analyzing large and small corpora, preferably
typologically diverse, and approach language research from an
interdisciplinary perspective. Experience with multilingual
populations and working with under-resourced languages is a plus.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic team of researchers
committed to pushing the boundaries of linguistic knowledge and its
applications in the modern world. They will be expected to lead
research initiatives, mentor junior researchers, and contribute to the
academic community through re, and knowledge exchange. Information
about the Linguistics Programme can be obtained at
http://linguistics.hku.hk. Enquiries may be sent to Professor Kofi
Yakpo, Chairperson, Linguistics Programme (e-mail: kofi@hku.hk).
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and
University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of
basic salary for fixed-term appointment. Other benefits include
annual leave and professional leave, medical benefits, and free access
to on-campus gyms and libraries. Housing benefits will be provided as
applicable.
The University only accepts online application for the above post.
Applicants should apply online at the University’s careers site
(https://jobs.hku.hk) and upload (1) a cover letter; (2) a CV; (3) a
comprehensive research statement outlining your past work and future
research agenda, and contact information for three professional
references. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to arrange for three
letters of reference to be sent in at a later stage of the search.
Review of applications will commence as soon as possible and continue
until March 31, 2025 or until the posts are filled, whichever is
earlier.
The University is committed to diversity and inclusivity. The Faculty
of Arts expressly encourages qualified persons from all genders to
